AROUND THE CAMPGROUND

Chvalšiny near Český Krumlov

Our campground is located on the edge of the village Chvalšiny, which lies at the base of the protected national forest Blanský les. From here, there are countless beautiful places to visit in practically every direction. The shortest walk will only take you 25 minutes and lead you to the Červený Dvůr Castle Park. This castle acted as the ancestral home of the Schwarzenberg family, and that includes its stunning Castle Garden. In the 50s, the castle served as a psychiatric hospital. A walk through the park and taking a tour of the castle interior will take you about 2 hours. The Castle Park is ideal for jogging.

Český Krumlov

Surely anyone who visits our campground will want to see Český Krumlov, the picturesque, historical city located about 10 km from Chvalšiny. It’s a stunning, romantic town interlaced with alleys, lined with historical townhouses running along the Vltava River, which is dominated by the imposing castle positioned on the rocks above. This constitutes a historical complex that has been on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Sites list since 1992. Expositions, concerts, musical festivals, and so much more are held here. Simply stated, Český Krumlov ranks at the top of the most visited tourist locations in the country. We recommend visiting the castle, its Baroque theatre, the Church of St. Vitus, the Castle Garden, Latrán, Cloak Bridge, and the Egon Schiele Art Centrum.

Kleť mountain and observation tower

Another place definitely worth visiting is Kleť mountain and its observation tower at the top. It’s the tallest mountain in Blanský les (1,084 m) and includes the highest standing observatory in Bohemia. This trip will take you about 2 to 2.5 hours if you leave by foot from Chvalšiny, but the view from the tower is absolutely worth it. Good weather permitting, you can see all the way to the peaks of the Alps, the majority of the Šumava mountain range, the Gratzen Mountains, the České Budějovice Basin, the Prachatice area, and, of course, nearby Český Krumlov. Various marked paths lead to Kleť tower as well as a cable car from the village Krásetín. Kleť is also sought-after by cyclists as you can enjoy the more challenging terrain provided by some of the bike paths.

All-day trips

If you’d like to take an all-day trip, we can recommend visiting the National Forest Borkovická blata near the town of Soběslav, located about 75 minutes by car from the campground. Here you can walk through the 5.5 km of footpaths along the nature trail. You can get to know this area’s flora and fauna and peat extraction. On your way back, be sure to stop by the capital city of South Bohemia, České Budějovice, which is known not only for its history but also for the production of the great and delicious beer made at the Budweiser Budvar.
